What is the Claude watermark?
Anthropic describes the text watermark as an imperceptible machine-readable mark woven directly into text generated by supported Claude models. It is not a visible badge and is intended not to change the response’s meaning, quality, or readability.
Because the mark forms part of the text, Anthropic says it can travel with copied content and may persist through some editing. The company has not yet published the technical method needed for independent verification.

Step 1: Copy your Claude-generated text
Select the complete passage you want to process. Keeping headings, paragraphs, lists, and punctuation intact gives you a clear original to compare against later.
If the text includes facts, quotations, code, or citations, verify those separately. Watermark processing is not fact-checking and does not establish authorship.
Step 2: Paste it into the Claude Watermark Remover
Open the homepage remover and paste the passage into the Claude text field. The current interface accepts up to 500,000 characters and shows a live character count.
Processing occurs in your browser. The tool does not submit pasted text to this website’s server, place it in a URL, or save it in browser storage.
Step 3: Process the text
Standard mode normalizes NFC and line endings; replaces U+00A0, U+1680, U+2000–U+200A, U+202F, U+205F, and U+3000 spaces; normalizes U+2028–U+2029 separators; and removes selected low-risk hidden formatting characters.
Broad mode additionally removes joiners, direction controls, and related invisible characters. It is opt-in because those characters can affect emoji, right-to-left text, and Arabic, Persian, or Indic shaping. Neither mode is a verified implementation of Anthropic’s unpublished marking system.
Step 4: Review your result
Read the processed version beside the original. Confirm paragraph order, punctuation, names, numbers, links, emoji, right-to-left layout, and intended meaning. Broad results require particular care.
A clean visual result is not proof that machine-readable marking is absent. Reliable confirmation would require an authoritative detector and clear technical guidance.
Step 5: Copy the processed text
When you are satisfied with the review, copy the result or download it as a plain-text file. Start Again clears the current in-memory input and report.
The result should still be treated according to any disclosure, attribution, school, workplace, platform, or legal rules that apply to your use of AI-assisted content.
Why copying and pasting alone may not remove Claude's marking
Traditional file metadata can be left behind when content is copied into a plain-text field. Anthropic says its text mark behaves differently because it is embedded in the text itself.
As a result, moving a response from Claude into an email, document, or content editor may carry the mark with it. Copy and paste changes the location, not necessarily the marked text.
What Anthropic says about editing and paraphrasing
Anthropic says a watermark may persist through some editing. It also lists heavy editing, paraphrasing, translation, and mixing with other writing as reasons a Claude-generated passage might no longer carry a detectable signal.
That statement describes detector limitations, not a recommended evasion recipe. Editing should serve accuracy, clarity, originality, and compliance with the rules governing the final work.
Current detection limitations
Anthropic says detection details will appear in forthcoming technical documentation. Until then, an independent website cannot responsibly promise an official Claude watermark check or confirmed removal result.
Even once detection exists, Anthropic cautions that a positive signal may indicate content was processed by Claude without proving Claude authored the underlying ideas. A negative result would not prove human authorship.
Which AI tool can remove a watermark for free?
